As I approached the doors to Dalisay Hair Salon & Bridal Suite I read the words “Refined,” “Perfect,” “Serene,” and “Clear,” printed along the windowpane. Entering through the doors, the floor setting was open and spacious. Large ceiling-high win dows allowed for natural sunlight to stretch across the beautiful floors. The space instantly felt warm and comforting. Each salon booth was tidy and well ordered with sizeable leather styling chairs. The overall atmosphere was professional and chic, yet also comfortable and inviting. A sense of peace filled the room.
Owners, Laura and Steve Mangin, opened Dalisay Hair Salon & Bridal Suite this past April with the vision of offering a beauty salon with top-notch, honest professionals that provide toxin-free products in an environment where people could come, feel at home and relaxed while treating their hair and skin. And only a few months later, their business and team are thriving.
“We couldn’t have picked a better group of people to come together,” says Steve. “Four months in and there are no arguments, no complaints, and people who come in are just amazed at our environment.”
Laura Mangin received her cosmetology certification five years ago. Her business started out of her home salon, but once her clientele started growing she moved to a salon in town which turned out not to be the best fit. From there, she moved to a salon suite and came to really enjoy the facility and the people, but there was still one thing missing—comradery. Laura wanted an environment she could call home, and a group of people that could feel like family. That’s when Laura met Tyler.
Tyler was the first stylist to join the Dalisay team long before anything was final. She has been in the beauty industry for over a decade and completed her training at a Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy. She specializes in cold fusion extensions (a healthier alternative to the traditional application of extensions), and participates in teaching at large conventions each year. Her other specialties include creative coloring, wedding and formal event hair styling, airbrush makeup, and editorial work.
When Laura met Tyler, she loved her work. They both shared a passion for weddings, and Laura saw an opportunity to learn from her, leading them to become great friends. Between both of them, they styled about 120 weddings last year alone. With that, they often had to travel to hotels to help the bridal party get ready, which sparked the discussion of starting something where they would have their own place to offer a bridal suite. Once Laura and Steve approached Tyler with the larger vision for their salon, Tyler was immediately in.
When asked why this opportunity was important, Tyler replied, “I think it’s important to be around women who empower each other, and I think it’s great we all work so well together. We’re in a beautiful place making people more beautiful, which is what I set out to do everyday.”
Along with Tyler came her assistant Brianna, who has worked
with her for almost two years while attending the cosmetology program at Cape Fear Community College. By shadowing Tyler, she’s learned different color lines and techniques, as well as how to be professional and build relationships with clients. Looking forward to receiving her certification soon and jumping right in, Brianna is grateful to be a part of the Dalisay family.
“I don’t think I’d be as passionate if I didn’t have this team,” Brianna comments. “Everyone here is passionate about what they do, and I’m grateful to have people who want me to strive to be better.”
Next to come aboard was their aesthetician, Brooke. She was Laura and Steve’s babysitter for the past couple years, watching over and caring for their two children. They found Brooke to be very health conscious and similar to Laura in her belief structure, and they knew she’d be a perfect fit.
Brooke has been certified for eyelash extensions through NovaLash and is working toward receiving her certification for micro blading. Brooke values her clients’ opinions and goals and offers formal and everyday makeup application, eyelash extensions, volume lashes, and custom Éminence Organic Skin Care facials.
Éminence Organics is an all plant derived skin care line designed to treat all different skin types and skin concerns. Éminence products are free of parabens, animal by-products, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, harmful colorants and fragrances, mineral oils, petroleum, and other hard cosmetic chemicals. Dalisay Salon is proud to be the premier salon in Wilmington to carry the Éminence Organic Skin Care line.
When pulling everything together for Dalisay Salon, it was important to Laura for all products to be toxin-free and contain nothing harmful if possible. Even when designing the salon, Steve and Laura wanted to make sure not to leave their footprint in a bad way; that meant even providing individual hand towels in their bathroom as opposed to paper towels.
With the team almost complete, Laura and Steve were looking for one other person that would be a good fit. After talking to several people, Laura reached out to Bee, who she’d been following on Facebook and Instagram. Bee replied and said she was pretty happy where she was currently but still agreed to hear them out. After hearing the intentions and focus for Dalisay Salon, she was interested but needed time to think it over.
Bee has been in the beauty industry since 2010 and does everything from cut to color to dread work. She has plenty of experience working on various sets from music videos to commercials. Bee also owns a local photography and videography company with her boyfriend called Happy 8 Photography who’s done all of Dalisay’s photoshoots and advertising. After a couple weeks, Bee said yes to the Dalisay team, and Laura and Steve couldn’t be more pleased.
Dalisay Salon offers Fake Bake spray tans, organic skin and hair products, nail services, and contains a 400+ square foot bridal suite for wedding day preparations. This is a place where you can feel comfortable, be around enjoyable people, and trust that not only is your health being kept in mind, but you’re also being consulted by a team who is reliable, educated, and professional. Go in, relax, have a coffee, tea, or even a glass of wine or champagne and let them take great care of you.
